The Research Council of Zimbabwe hosted a workshop on Foreign Researchers Registration and Sensitisation on 29 July 2016 at Monomotapa Hotel where over 130 delegates from Government Ministries, and Departments, Universities, Research Institutions, Researchers, Users of Research Results and Foreign Researchers attended.
In his welcome remarks, read on his behalf by the RCZ Executive Director, Mrs S Muzite, the RCZ Board Chairman Dr. M. J. Tumbare stated that the RCZ is mandated by the Research Act [Chapter 10:22], Section 27 to register foreign researchers. The RCZ remains focused on delivering on its obligation of registering foreign researchers. The Chairman noted that the registration of foreign researchers is done with the spirit of promoting collaboration between Zimbabwean researchers and their foreign counterparts.
The Chairman stated that in an effort to improve the registration process and ensure that all researchers are up to date with the requirements for registration, hence the workshop was planned.
In delivering the workshop objectives, RCZ executive Director, Mrs S. Muzite indicated that, the workshop was aimed at providing an opportunity for stakeholders in the research fraternity to interact with the RCZ as a regulator. The workshop presented an opportunity to clarify obligations of Institutions of Affiliation in registration of foreign researchers while, at the same time, explaining the expectations of RCZ when applying for registering as Foreign Researchers.
