The Research Council of Zimbabwe (RCZ) was established in 1986 and is an apex body of national research in Zimbabwe. Its main mandate is to promote, direct, supervise and coordinate research with particular reference to the interests of Zimbabwe.  The activities of the RCZ are regulated by the Research Act [Chapter 10:22].  RCZ is looking for strategic thinking, innovative, and ethical leaders with appreciation of the national research ecosystem to lead the Council, for the following positions:

1. EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Reporting directly to the RCZ Board, this position will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring that the broad mandate of RCZ as embodied in the Research Act [Chapter 10:23] is carried out;
  • Developing the RCZ strategic plan and managing the allocation of resources in line with policy priorities;
  • Monitoring and following up on the progress of the national scientific and technical research being undertaken, particularly in public institutions;
  • Ensuring supervision and control of research councils and institutes undertaking research in Zimbabwe;
  • Promoting, assisting and encouraging research aligned to the development thrust of Zimbabwe;
  • Working to strengthen research and innovation capacities in diverse fields;
  • Fundraising to boost research initiatives of RCZ;
  • Interfacing with the RCZ Board and other relevant clients and stakeholders;
  • Ensuring that RCZ’s and its Secretariat’s day to day activities are efficiently conducted.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate should meet the following minimum requirements:

  • An earned PhD in any research related field.
  • A distinguished scholar, an associate or full professorship will be an added advantage.
  • A professional qualification is an added advantage.
  • At least ten (10) years of relevant work experience at senior management, or administrator level.
  • A thorough understanding of national research ecosystem and priority programmes.

2. CHIEF ACCOUNTANT

Reporting directly to the RCZ Executive Director, this position will be responsible for:

  • Implementing RCZ`s accounting system.
  • Preparation of revenue and expenditure forecasts.
  • Preparation of monthly, quarterly, bi-annual and annual financial statements.
  • Co-ordination and development of financial control systems that will ensure efficient and effective collection and disbursement of funds.
  • Undertaking regular and proper reconciliation of all accounts.
  • Reviewing, investigating, and correction of errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports.
  • Any other duty as assigned by the Executive Director.
 Minimum Qualifications and Experience
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related field from a recognized university.
  • A Master’s degree is an added advantage.
  • Must be a member of the PAAB Zimbabwe.
  • Any other professional qualification is an advantage.
  • Certification in International Public Sector Accounting Standards will be an added advantage.
  • At least five years of financial management at a senior level.
