Overview
Dr Nelson Maseko is the Executive Director of the Research Council of Zimbabwe. He is an expert in regulation, governance, risk and compliance. A Chartered Governance and Accountancy professional and a fellow member of the Chartered Governance and Accountancy Institute in Zimbabwe, Dr Maseko is a registered public accountant in Zimbabwe. He is a passionate academic and a published researcher with more than ten years of experience in professional education, regulation, corporate governance, training and research.
Career
Dr Maseko worked as a lecturer at the Bindura University of Science Education (BUSE) from March 2009 to February 2013. In March 2013, Dr Maseko moved to the Chartered Governance and Accountancy Institute in Zimbabwe (CGAIZ, known as ICSAZ then) to take up the position of Technical Manager. At ICSAZ, he introduced the Excellence in Corporate Governance Awards (ECGA), a technical newsletter for members (TechMail) and championed various collaborations for the Institute. He joined the Public Accountants and Auditors Board (PAAB) in January of 2018 as Professional Technical Manager. At the PAAB, he spearheaded the development of the Zimbabwe Public Sector Accountancy Competency Framework, the Audit Development Programme and the Institutional Accreditation Policy. In September 2020 Dr Maseko rejoined the CGAIZ as Research and Technical Manager where he spearheaded the rebranding of the Institute, training, new programme development, research and new collaborations. In April 2022 he was promoted to the position of Director: Technical, Training and Research.
Dr Maseko taught postgraduate research part-time at the Great Zimbabwe University’s Munhumutapa School of Commerce from September 2021 to August 2022. He is a published researcher in regulation, corporate governance, accounting, financial reporting, taxation, and small business management.
Education
Dr Maseko studied for a Bachelor of Accountancy (Honours) degree at the Bindura University of Science Education from 2004 to 2008. Soon after completion, he joined the Department of Accountancy at BUSE as a temporary full-time lecturer. In 2006 he enrolled for the chartered governance and accountancy professional qualification of the Chartered Governance and Accountancy Institute in Zimbabwe and graduated in 2010. He was accepted into associate membership of the Institute in 2013 and became a fellow in 2021. In 2010 he enrolled for a Master of Business Leadership (MBL) degree at BUSE and graduated in 2012. Dr Maseko enrolled for a Doctorate of Business Administration (DBA) degree with SMC Business School (Malta, Switzerland) in 2014. He researched on comprehensive regulation and completed his DBA in 2021.
